Women’s Rights and Advocacy Project
Coordinator
The YWCA of Palestine is implementing the second phase of a Project titled “Mobilizing Intergenerational Leadership of Women in Peace Building”, which aims at building women’s leadership to advocate for ending violence against Palestinian women, as well as building women’s leadership and promoting women’s representation in public forums and the implementation of UNSCR1325. The YWCA seeks to offer women’s rights trainings and assist community members in selected communities to advocate for their rights, and help them design campaigns as well as lobby for policy changes. On the International Level, the program will assist in presenting policy papers around issues related to violations of women’s rights, and engaging in global forums such as the Commission of the Status of Women, Human Rights Council, and the World YWCA Council.
The YWCA of Palestine is thus seeking to hire a qualified and motivated person who will manage the Women’s Rights and Advocacy Project
Duration: 1 year (with the possibility of extension)
Job Location: YWCA HQ in Jerusalem
Employment Status: Project Staff
Start Date: 15 June 2013 (or as soon as possible)
The main responsibilities of the Project Coordinator will be:
-Maintain the strategic oversight of women’s advocacy related projects, and ensure proper planning and implementation of all activities in compliance with action plan, budget and donor agreements.
-Responsible for preparation of proposals, annual plans, periodic and annual reports, for all donors supported women’s rights programs.
-Represent the women’s rights projects in public forums, and coordinate with the existing National Forum for SR1325 in Palestine, as well as other women organizations, Ministry of Women’s Affairs and women networks.
-Supervise the Coordination of national trainings on advocacy and lobbying, as well as the formation of national campaigns on women’s rights
-Oversee and manage the production of materials, draft press releases and other policy statements or position papers, and provide inputs for articles for YWCA of Palestine website, as well as World YWCA periodicals and journals.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Minimum Bachelor degree in women/gender studies, social studies, sociology, or any other relevant area;
-Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in project management, including project planning, monitoring and reporting
-Experience in media campaigning and advocacy for women’s rights is an added value
-Excellent writing and communication skills in both Arabic and English and Computer skills (Microsoft Office);
-Ability to set high-level goals and work in a team and under pressure;
-Autonomy and initiative; and commitment to work towards the promotion of gender equality and other YWCA’s core values.
