The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees invites applications from qualified candidates for the posts of:

Mechanic

Location: Gaza Field

Type of Appointment: Fixed Term

Main Responsibilities

In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:

 Repairs and maintains vehicle and motor transport equipment operated by the Agency

 Assists the Head Mechanic in: o Determining the repairs required and the parts to be replaced; o Reporting abnormal wear or damage discovered in vehicles inspected or repaired; o Inspecting and testing vehicles and equipment; o Technical training of Motor Transport staff.

 May replace the Head Mechanic during the latter’s absence;

 May be required to drive an Agency vehicle in the course of his duty.

 Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Personal & Professional Competencies

 Successful completion of full preparatory education

 Successful completion of a full time course of at least two years duration in automotive repair.

 Three years satisfactory practical experience in automotive repairs covering petrol and/or diesel engines, using modern garage tools and equipment.

 Experience in using workshop manuals and spare parts catalogues.

 Fluency in English and Arabic,

 Possession of a driving license valid in the country of duty station covering all types of vehicles operated by the Agency.

 Passing a trade test conducted by the Vehicle Maintenance Officer.

Conditions Of Service

 Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $644.80; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 17%) and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25.

 Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.

Leave: 30 days annual leave

 Pension: Provident Fund contribution

 Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

Equivalency

Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
